From Mike Huckabee via the Vertical Politics Institute...
Today the Vermont legislature attacked traditional marriage by voting (by only one vote) to override Governor Douglas' veto. Vermont becomes the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage. The other three states, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa did so by judicial rulings. Now the Vermont legislature has joined in the assault on the most critical foundation in our society - the American family.
Governor Douglas, when he vetoed the original legislation on Monday, said "I believe that marriage should remain between a man and a woman." I agree with Governor Douglas. We must not continue to undermine the traditional American family. Once again, the right to decide an issue of such importance has been taken out of the hands of the voter.
The actions of the Vermont Legislature, coming on the heels of the judicial ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court, should make it apparent to each of us that conservative values and conservative principles are under attack as never before. We must take action now.
It is up to each of us who believe in traditional marriage to increase our efforts to protect the foundation of our society. I continue to support a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman. It is now an absolute necessity. We must stop the liberal legislatures and activist judges from undermining the moral fabric of our society. Fighting for passage of a constitutional amendment is critical to conservative principles.
Join me in waging the battle for the protection of the family - help rally support for a constitutional amendment.
Fighting for our principles

Please explain how granting equal rights to homosexuals in any way threatens your family, your marriage or your way of life. Let alone the "moral fabric of our society." Is Mike Huckabee really as mentally unstable as this statement makes him appear?
ReplyDeleteYou can see what we conservatives are dealing with here. Anyone who dares to object to the homosexual agenda is called "mentally unstable." How can we have a serous debate on this important issue with this type of name calling going on?
ReplyDeleteIt would be much more interesting if people could defend why they believe something, but its apparantly easier to just call names. I had comments on my Facebook...they followed the same name calling and lack of actual debate...

Complete ignorance on your part - I feel sorry for you.

??? You feel sorry for people who you disagree with?
Gina Caroway at 10:33am April 8
I wasn't aware that conservative values equal "ignorance"??

It's always easy to attack your opponent rather than just agree to disagree.

What is sad is when someone with conservative values expresses their opinion and is called ignorant. Believe me when I tell you we stand on the highest authority of truth, God's word. God is clear that marriage is ordained by Him between one woman and one man.

Ever wonder why barny frank has no teeth? I'm just asking.

Hopefully you won't ever have a child or family member who is confused about sexuality, they would probably have a hard time coming to you.

Well... I have friends who are gay. And while I myself would obviously never enter a marriage with another dude, I still respect the desire that some of my friends may have one day to make their relationships sacred, as their feelings for each other just might be the same as between Shelly and I. However, I totally understand the conservative argument against this, as it isn't helping us to continue straying from the original values on which our country was founded, and as we've seen, the slippery slope towards more liberal rulings has 2 speeds. Fast, and faster. I'm afraid I'll have to stay on the fence about this issue.

Kids need to know the truths about perversion, and to those who do not understand perversion it is a sexual practice considered unusual or unacceptable.
Alan Williams at 12:29pm April 8
That is just it, it will never be sacred in God's eye, nor shall it be in ours either.

When everything is all said and done, everyone will be held accountable to God for his or her actions, words and thoughts. I will stand by His word no matter what the world says and follow Him :)

I personally don't judge or condemn anyone, but God's word does say homosexuality is an abomination. The morals and values in America are being thrown out the window. We aren't supposed to do things just because it FEELS good. There is right and wrong and unfortunatley with every passing day the lines are blurred. If you read the book of revelations it predicts all this stuff, so it doesn't suprise me.
Chad Leakey at 2:23pm April 8
Two atheists can go to the Justice of the Peace and get married...Just throwing that out there
Gina Caroway at 2:39pm April 8
well said, Lindsay...I couldn't agree more!
Wait a minute. I ask you to explain how granting equal rights to homosexuals is a threat to your marriage or the moral fabric of our society, and all of a sudden I am "calling names?" And somehow you think I am the one who cannot have an intelligent debate? Besides, there really is nothing to debate here. Homosexuals are every bit citizens of the United States as you and I and they are entitled to the same rights and the same protections under our laws. It really is that simple. (Well, for most of us, it is.) Why do you believe they are second class citizens? What makes you think they are any less entitled to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" than you are?
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm the one calling names. Okay, then....
