WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?

I’ve had a lot of conversations over the past week asking me just exactly what the big deal is about the announcement we made about Congressman Souder signing on as a co-sponsor.

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?...

We are one congressman closer to forcing the Speaker to open debate on H.R. 25. We are one congressman closer to making the FairTax a news story that can’t be ignored. We are one congressman closer to making all of our hard work for the FairTax pay off. We are one congressman closer to slipping our National neck out of the noose of a tax code that has been choking productivity, innovation, efficiency and motivation for nearly one hundred years. That noose has tightened so much in this economic downturn that it is dangerously close to accomplishing that which a noose is designed for. Our tax code is on the verge of killing our economy entirely. Not just hampering our economy but bringing it to a screeching halt. There are congressman starting to wake up to this fact and that is turning the tide in favor of our cause.

THAT IS A BIG DEAL…

As a grassroots movement, we rely entirely on volunteers to take the message to their friends and family. They are depended on to man booths at fairs, speak to groups, do radio and print interviews, and provide all the resources that it takes to get all these things done. They… you… pass out flyers, put the bumper stickers on your cars, put the signs in your yards, do the sign waves, attend the rallies, and promote the movement on different websites and blogs all over the internet.

All of that work can be tedious and thankless. A lot times it seems like we are not getting anywhere. It feels like we are spinning our wheels. The efforts that were spent bringing Congressman Souder on board paid off! It showed that perseverance and hard work still get things accomplished. It showed that grassroots efforts can rise up out of nowhere and change things… even things that have been choking our prosperity for a century.

THAT IS A BIG DEAL…

Congressman Souder coming on board strengthened our movement. We now have better than fifteen percent of the House of Representatives on our side. That is almost one in five congressmen saying that it is time to FIX the problem! They are saying that it is time to jumpstart our economic engine and put us back on top. They are saying that it is time to bring back the “MADE IN AMERICA” label. They are saying it is time to give you back control of your financial future. They are ready to finally cut the legs out from under the tax lobbyists and power brokers in Congress that pick the winners and losers. They are the leaders of a growing group of lawmakers that are ready to set our financial ship right.

AND YES…

THAT IS A BIG DEAL!

GRASSROOTS FAIRTAX SUPPORTERS WELCOME THE ADDITION OF REP. MARK SOUDER (R – 3rd) AS A CO-SPONSOR

FT. WAYNE, IN – Grassroots activists and supporters from Indiana of the non-partisan tax reform legislation known as “The FairTax” (H.R. 25) applaud the addition of Congressman Mark Souder of Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District as a co-sponsor.

Representative Souder joins Representatives Mike Pence (R – 6th) and Dan Burton (R – 5th) as co-sponsors of critically needed legislation to restructure the United States tax code from one based on ones income and productivity to one based on consumption that will completely un-tax the poor and improve America’s competitiveness in the World economy.

Congressman Souder praised the consistent and persistent efforts of grassroots volunteers and voters who ensured that their support for The FairTax was noticed. Congressman Mark Souder said, “After meeting with state and district leaders of FairTax Indiana to answer some of my additional questions, I have concluded that the Fair Tax is the best current option to reform our broken income tax system. While I continue to believe that a modified flat tax is another option, passing the Fair Tax would fix the unfairness of the current system and become an engine for economic growth.”

Danny Higgins, State Director of FairTax Indiana, said “The current state of the economy and the need to ensure American competitiveness in the World is causing many to re-examine and embrace The FairTax as the best and most fair reform plan before Congress.”

ABOUT THE FAIRTAX

The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 296) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

Exciting Times for FairTax Indiana!

Exciting Times For FairTax Indiana!

There are a lot of exciting things happening for FairTax Indiana! The new website is growing and has become a great place to share ideas and network with other supporters. We are seeing growth in our supporter database and online petitions. Our group members have been very successful this year attending Tea Parties, gun shows, statehouse rallies, meeting with community groups and have had the opportunity to speak to thousands of people about the greatest “stimulus” package there is… The FairTax! It is awesome to be a part of the Leadership here in Indiana. As the District 5 Director, I have had the pleasure of attending the Leadership Institute in Lafayette with our State Director and other District Directors. It was an intense two days of training that we have found ways to integrate into our work to make the FairTax a reality.

There are a lot of exciting ideas circulating inside FairTax Indiana… We are planning a blitz of county and community fairs in 2010. (We are exploring the possibility of having a FairTax sponsored race car to have on display at some of these events.) We are looking at new ways to use social networking. We are continually working to improve the website and make it more user friendly and compatible with other social media. There are discussions of starting an email newsletter that will better serve those who want the news and information about the FairTax, but aren’t comfortable in the FaceBook/Ning/Twitter world.

There is a lot of excitement and discussion about making a push for a state version of the FairTax a reality here in Indiana. We can once and for all put an end to the Property Tax issue! We are seeing that people are very receptive to the idea of abolishing the property tax, state personal income tax, and corporate income tax and replacing it with a broader based consumption tax. If you are interested in learning more and being a part of this push, please join the Hoosier FairTax Bill Group

We are seeing our long hours and hard work payoff. As a District Director I want to thank all of our volunteers for all they do. Without all the sent emails, FaceBook posts, conversations with friends and family, bumper stickers and the like, FairTax Indiana would be going nowhere. I also want to thank the whole team of Leaders for all their dedication and hard work. AND thank their SPOUSES and families for all their support and enduring the lost family time.

VERY SOON there will be an announcement made that will prove just how effective all our volunteers and leaders have been this year. It is going to be evident what a passionate, consistent, and PERSISTENT group of activists can accomplish working together. We all hope you enjoy the news as much as we have been. Lets enjoy it together, spread the news and get ready to push to the finish line… 2010 is going to be a big year for the FairTax movement!
